The nation continues to descend into insanity as two black police officers in Chicago, Illinois knelt to protest themselves and stand (kneel?) in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the other NFL athletes who kneel during the national anthem.
Instagram user Englewood Barbie posted the photo of the two uniformed officers, accompanied with a caption saying she asked the officers if they stand with Colin Kaepernick and the growing number of professional athletes who have decided to kneel during the national anthem.
The rest of Englewood Barbie’s Instagram account consists largely of photos of her convincing people to kneel before the camera, as though she is some sort of Simon Says cult leader.
Because there is still some justice left in the world, the police officers are now facing a reprimand from the Chicago Police Department.
Via Chicago Sun Times:
“We are aware of the photo, and we will address it in the same way we have handled previous incidents in which officers have made political statements while in uniform, with a reprimand and a reminder of department policies,” Guglielimi said in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times.
As the black Chicago police officers join the protest against police brutality, Chicago continues to face an unprecedented crisis. It is one of the most dangerous U.S. cities, and its murder rate approaches that of the war torn country Iraq.
This is not a far right wing suggestion. BBC wrote an article in September of 2016 titled “Iraq v Chraq: How Chicago violence feels like a war.” Also in September of last year, Forbes wrote an article titled “Homicides In Chicago Eclipse U.S. Death Toll In Afghanistan And Iraq.”
Yet somehow Chicago police officers find time in their days to support Colin Kaepernick.
Absolutely stunning. And brave.
