Buzzfeed recently released a video titled “I Am A Gender Non-Conforming Parent” featuring two women who are trying to “queer” their relationship with their son.
The couple is amazed that, at 17 months, their son wants to play sports and be active, and mother Michelle laments that her child will not do things like wear tutus.
“I’m constantly like trying to queer my relationship with him and get him to wear tutus. He hates it. He’s just like, ‘no,’” Michelle said in the video.
The two claim to support their son regardless of whatever made up gender he may choose to identify as, but later in the video it is clear they are hoping it is not male.
When talking about children’s books, Michelle notes “He has this great book that’s like, just pictures and words. But when you open it up, it’s like, a picture of a girl and a picture of a boy, and it’s like, ‘Girl,’ ‘Boy,’ and I’m just like, ‘Child,’ ‘Child.’”
Apparently learning the words “boy” and “girl” is not as important if your parents are butchy lesbians.
The other mother, Dashielle, explains that she prefers to be called their son’s “baba,” a word Michelle explains is “something that a lot more masculine female people, and even some trans men who are parents,” go by.
The two conclude, “Everybody needs to be reconsidering the way they are presenting gender to their kids. It’s not even whether or not Atticus is going to personally be a gender queer, gender fluid person,” continuing “Atticus could grow up to be a completely a traditionally cisgendered male, and he needs to understand the variety of genders out there so he can be a respectful human being in the world.”
And to that, we at Department of Memes simply reply: “No.”
Fortunately, as with the pro-refugee propaganda YouTube tried to push on its audience, this Buzzfeed video has been given a round of abuse by sane human beings, with just over 2 million views and 40,580 ‘dislikes’ at the time of this article’s publication.
